Tension, Confusion as Factional Speaker Emerges in EDHA

By Dayo Omoogun

Honourable Victor Edoror on Thursday emerged as factional speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.

Edoror who represents Esan Central Constituency was elected in an emergency plenary session attended by 17 elected members while Honourable Emmanuel Agbaje of Akoko-Edo Constituency II got elected as Deputy Speaker

Sources say the election was held in Benin-city in an undisclosed location where the 14 lawmakers-elect who had not been inaugurated under controversial circumstances were quickly inaugurated thereby paving the way for the purported impeachment of Frank Okiye and Roland Asoro as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the House of Assembly was besieged by Obaseki loyalists and PDP supporters who barricaded the gates to forestall its forceful takeover by APC agents. Construction workers were also seen dismantling the roof of the Assembly as according to sources the complex had been scheduled for renovation.
