The mysterious murder of a Lagos businessman, Mr. Musibau Olaiya, by suspected hired assassins, yesterday, has continued to generate furore in the Anthony Village area of Lagos.
According to sources, the late Olaiya who was a resident of Oyedele Street in Anthony Village was about driving into his compound around 9:pm, when he met the ill-fate.
It was gathered that his would-be killers had been cooling off in a nearby restaurant cum bar, where they were laying siege, expecting their target to arrive home from work, as of routine.
A vulcaniser in the neighbourhood who simply identified self as Yinusa, said he was amazed when, as Olaiya wanted to alight from his vehicle to open the gate of his compound, two gun-totting men suddenly surfaced from the nearby bar.
“Before he knew what was happening, they had fired gun shots at his head, felling him instantly before making good their escape with unregistered car parked at the corner of the street and drove off.”
Speaking with our correspondent, the grief-stricken daughter of the deceased, Fausiyat, gave startling revelations on the possible cause of assassination of her father.
She said, “A few days ago, dad expressed worry that some dangerous persons had been on his trail because their godfather wanted him to surrender the documents of some properties in his custody.”
She said her father was otherwise an easygoing man who would never make trouble with anyone, to warrant an attack.
Another elderly member of the family who would not want his name in print, corroborated the claim, expressing concern that Musibau Olaiya’s immediate family members, especially his daughter and his sisters lived in mortal danger as the deceased’s traducers could go after them.
Meanwhile, authorities at the Anthony Village Police Divisional Headquarters confirmed the tragic incident. A police officer who preferred anonymity because he was not officially authorised to talk, said full investigations had begun.
Also, a police report on the incident, obtained by our correspondent, affirmed detail of the incident.
