Tensions Rise In Ondo: Protesters Storm Governor’s Office Over Farmer Killings

Hundreds of protesters on Wednesday morning stormed the Alagbaka office of the Ondo State governor protesting over the killing of another five farmers by armed herdsmen.

The farmers were said to be shot dead during the invasion of armed men at Aba Oyinbo in Akure North local government area of Ondo state.

The protesters who blocked the road leading to the governor’s office threatened to shut out the state if the state government failed to address the insecurity in the state.

They expressed displeasure and anger over the seemingly lackadaisical attitude of the governor, Aiyedatiwa to the incessant killing of farmers in the state by the armed herdsmen

They stated that the state government has failed to address the incessant killings, kidnapping and other criminal activities, saying the state government has not exhibit any seriousness in tackling the insecurity in the state.

The protesters who displayed the bodies of the casualties vowed not to leave the governor’s office until the governor address them to assure them on the insecurity in state in the last two months.

They explained that the five farmers were killed early hours of Wednesday by the armed herdsmen who had about a fortnight ago killed 20 farmers in four farm settlements in the same local government.

Commuters and motorist on Akure/Owo Road were stranded as there was mass protest in Ogbese where the protesters barricaded the road in protest preventing travelers from passing and were held for several hours.

Speaking to the angry protesters, the state Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, appealed to the protesters, assuring them that the state government would put an end to the killing and kidnapping in the state.

He reaffirmed the Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Ondo State.
