Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda will reposition Nigeria – Akume

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, has appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, saying his Renewed Hope agenda will reposition the country.

Akume made the appeal on Friday at a Public Lecture/Special Jumma’at Prayer as part of activities to commemorate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary in Abuja.

The SGF, who noted that the nation’s economy was fragile, pledged the administration’s determination to rebuild it.

“To be honest, our economy is very fragile now.

“What is being put in place is intended to revamp, to reactivate the nation’s economy.

“We need to be tolerant; we need to make even more sacrifices for a better tomorrow.

“And if we don’t sacrifice today, tomorrow may never come.

“I want to say frankly that our better, golden days are still ahead.”

According to him, it is the responsibility of every citizen to continue to build on what the forefathers of Nigeria started so as to achieve the desired goals.

The SGF also appealed to the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to embrace dialogue with the government as the administration was still too new to warrant a call for strike.

“The administration is still too new to warrant a call for strike; there is need to give it time,” Akume said.

The Guest Speaker at the occasion, Prof. Luqman Zakariyah delivered a paper on ‘Renewed hope in the face of socio-economic challenges in Nigeria: Islamic Model’.

He highlighted five principles by which Tinubu’s government could achieve the set goals.

“If President Bola Tinubu wants to actualise the ‘renewed hope’, these key principles of sincerity, passion for perfection, law enforcement, selflessness and spirituality need to be included in his agenda.”

He also emphasised the need for sincerity and spirituality, as expected of leaders by the Almighty Allah in accordance with His instructions to those in authority, to rekindle the hope of good governance in Nigerians.

Zakariyah said such steps would curb some of the challenges relating to insincerity in the leadership system.
