• No Rescue for Kaduna Victims for Over 3 Hours
A THREE storey building collapsed in Kaduna metropolis on Thursday.
Many traders and residents were said to have been trapped in the building which served both as residential and commercial building.
Residents as well as traders in the market watched helplessly for three hours without sighting rescue operators.
They lamented that three hours after the collapse of the building, no heavy duty vehicle that could rescue those trapped in the building was sighted.
There is no hope that residents trapped would be rescued alive.
Even the Governor of the state, Ramallan Yero who was one of the early callers at the scene of the incident, wept on sighting the building.
He left the scene of the incident and came back at about 4:15pm when a crane from the Julius Berger Construction Company had commenced work on the collapsed building.
The Kaduna incident occurred on the same day that at least seven people were killed after a residential building collapsed in Nigeria’s main city, Lagos.
A baby was among at least seven other people rescued from the three-story building in the Ebute-Meta neighbourhood.
The building caved in because of structural defects, officials said.
Red Cross official Oladimeji Ige said rescue operations were continuing as they suspected that more people were trapped under the building,
He also confirmed that an infant was among victims when the building caved in before dawn on Thursday.
