UN, AU, ECOWAS Call for Calm over PDP’s Rejection of Election Result

The United Nations ((UN), African Union (AU), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)

have jointly called on the political party to exercise calm in the ongoing collation of election results by INEC.

PDP, the opposition party has rejected some results declared by the election umpire at the ongoing exercise.

In a joint statement made available to the media on Tuesday, the body
said: “The attention of the ECOWAS, the AU and the UN has been drawn to the rejection of the results of the presidential election of 23 February by one of the participating political parties, even as they are still in the process of being released.

“ECOWAS, AU and the UN call on all candidates, political parties and indeed all Nigerians to continue to exercise patience, calm and restraint, in order to allow for the full results of the election to be released by the Independent National Elections Commission (INEC).”

The body advised any of the aggrieved party to explore legal means to seek redress at the conclusion of the election in accordance with the constitution and relevant laws of Nigeria, and as previously agreed in the Peace Accord of 13 February, 2019.
