Update on Strike… Union Chases Workers from Offices

In compliance with the indefinite strike order declared by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Ayuba Wabba,

on Wednesday, workers who tried to defy the order were chased out of their places of work without harm to them, SHARPEDGENEWSOnline can authoritatively report from the Federal Capital Territory.

NLC president Wabba, is demanding N50,000 from both the federal and state governments.

 At kubwa, a satellite town of Abuja where the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) where its workers and staff resumed work at around 8 a.m were chased out by the union members who ordered that every ongoing activity and operations be suspended forthwith. A senior of the branch who requested for anonymity said workers had no option but to comply with the order.

He apologized to customers who had besieged the office for installation of their metres. The customers left the premises of the distribution with mixed feelings. Checks at the Kubwa railway terminus was also desolate as the usual activities of rail traffic from Kaduna was dead silence. A few police officers and private security guards were seen hanging around the train station.

Checks at the various offices of Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at the federal secretariat were seen under locks and keys even as the branches of the several commercial banks building were forced to shut down in compliance with the order from NLC.

Also the various court institutions were shut down by the Judiciary union in compliance with the indefinite strike. Our reporter learnt that the CJN, the president of the court of Appeal, the Chief Judges of both the Federal High Court and FCT high court and the top hierarchy of the institutions were also locked out due to the strike which is in its day one.

However, flight activities across the airports in Lagos, Abuja and other major state capital witnessed non compliance as travelers started arriving the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja in the early hours of the day from Lagos, Port and Calabar.
