WAEC Results Highlights: 215,149 Results Withheld, 86% Score 5 Credit and Above

A total of 215,149 results are being withheld by the West African Examinations Council in the Secondary School Certificate examination which was concluded about 52 days ago.
This was made known by Patrick Areghan the Head of National Office at a news conference on Monday in Lagos.
He also disclosed that Chibok Local Government Area students sat for the examinations for the first time since the abduction of over 200 girls in the area in 2014. He referred to the experience as “interesting and gratifying.”

He disclosed that a total of 1,549,740 candidates registered for the exam from 19,129 recognized secondary schools across the country. The number of students whose results has been fully released is 1,456,727 while 81,718 have a few of their subjects still being processed due to the errors of the students.

Over 86% of the students who registered for the exams, that is 1,333,348 of them, obtained credits and higher grades in a minimum of 5 subjects. But the number of students who achieved credit and above in a minimum of 5 subjects which includes Mathematics and English is 1,003,668 representing 65.24%.

Female candidates who sat for the exam constitute 50.47 per cent while the male students made up the remaining 49.53 percent according to the Council’s analysis.

Areghan noted that special needs candidates who sat for the exams and were specially provided for by the council included 230 visually challenged, 745 with impaired hearing and 2,852 with low vision.
