The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Friday said it sacked members of the Super Eagles’ coaching crew over their failure to fulfil the terms of their contract with the association.
Speaking at the end of the association’s emergency board meeting, NFF Chairman Aminu Maigari said the fate of coach Samson Siasia and his colleagues was determined by their contract.
The association had, in its meeting’s communiqué read by board member Effiong Johnson, announced the coaches’ sack.
The Eagles team handled by the technical crew had failed to earn the team a qualification ticket to the 2012 African Nations Cup finals scheduled for Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
The crew which also had Dutch-born Simon Kalinka, Salisu Yusuf and Ike Shorounmu had been mandated to not only take the team to the competition but also reach its semi-finals.
“The clause in their contracts meant that they have to go, and the association has only acted in that line,’’ Maigari said.
NFA had in its communiqué said Siasia and his assistants “breached a key proviso in their contract with the NFA and their services are therefore promptly dispensed with’’.
It had said this was in line with contractual agreements, and based on the recommendations of its Technical Committee.
Siasia had signed a four-year deal with the NFF on Dec. 1, 2010, after he was chosen ahead of former teammate Stephen Keshi about a month earlier.
At the ceremonial unveiling in Abuja, NFF had said his contract was performance-driven and subject to a review after the first two years.
“Our football has been in the emergency ward but we now have a coach that is capable of pulling the Super Eagles out of this troubling situation,” Maigari had said.
“His contract is performance-rewarding, and he will get bonuses and benefits based on the performance of the team’’.
