Why Onu Bags Minister of Year Award, Authority Newspaper

The Managing Director of The Authority Newspaper, Mr. Madu Onuorah, has said the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu,

bagged the newspaper’s most performing minister of the 2018, because of the impact of the Executive Order 005 and his facilitation of the massive production of the high density biscuit in the market for children.

Meanwhile, Onu,, said the nation is embarking on a silent revolution in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), by harnessing the intellectual talents of Nigerians in helping to solve the challenges faced by the nation.

Dr. Onu said this, when he received the award in his office on Tuesday in Abuja.

The Minister acknowledged that the ministry is collaborating with the private sector to develop a science and technology museum to give coming generations insight into what our forebears did and motivate them to do more.

While appreciating the management, board and staff of the newspaper for the award, he pointed out how the newspaper is a trailblazer in reportage of Science, Technology and Innovation in Nigeria.

Dr. Onu, tasked the Authority newspaper to throw more light on science, technology and innovation in Nigeria and show more on the research work carried out by the Ministry and its agencies”, he added.

He stated that everyone in the country has to be fully involved with the task of building a knowledge-based economy, urging the media to be involved in disseminating Science, Technology and Innovation to the populace.

He called on other media organisations to give premium to Science and Technology, because no country has become truly great without Science, Technology and Innovation.

Dr. Onu described the problems of the country as being more complex than before and every sector of the society has to contribute to the solution.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Mr. Bako Nabasu noted that the Minister deserved the award and appreciated the newspaper for the recognition, as it would spur the ministry to strive to perform more.
