Woman Sues Guardian for Failure to Reveal her Biological Father

A 36 year-old woman, Mrs Aishat Abubakar of Barnawa Area in Kaduna State, on Friday sued her guardian, Alhaji Shuaibu Tanko, for refusing to take her to her parent.

Aisha told a Kaduna Sharia Court that Tanko and his wife, Fatima, were not her biological parents and efforts to convince them to take her to her real parents failed.

She urged the court to compel them to return her to her father, adding: “I know my biological father’s residence at Barnawa and I’m ready to move to him when the court grants my prayers.’’

She said that her biological parents name were Abubakar and Amina respectively.

Tanko, however, told the court that Aishat was his daughter and that the complainant had mental problem.

Tanko said that Aishat was his first daughter and her original name was Hauwa not Aishat, adding: “she has mental disoder seven years ago.’’

He said that the complainant was still living with him, noting that the house she was referring to was his personal house at Barnawa.

He, therefore, urged the court to dismiss the case as it lacked merit because the complainant had mental problem.

The trial judge, Usman Ibrahim, rejected the guardian’s demand, noting that he had failed to convince the court that he was the complainant’s father.

He summoned the person the complainant claimed to be her real father to court to verify her claim and adjourned the case to Jan. 10.
