Maj. Gen. Samson Jiya, the captain of the club, told newsmen on the sidelines of the event’s tee-off ceremony that the TYB Golf Club was gradually becoming the pride and bride of golfing in Nigeria.

He noted that no fewer than 88 members were inducted into the prestigious club, adding that the club currently boasts over 500 members.

“So, we thought it wise to host and specially welcome our new members in a first-of-its-kind induction kitty.

“We are using the opportunity to educate them on the roles, values and ethics of golf, especially as it relates to what is expected of them here at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club,” he said.

Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye , the Chief of Defence Intelligence and a special guest of honour at the event told newsmen that he was very proud of the heights the club had reached, adding that it took off from a very humble beginning.

“TYBIGRCC has indeed become a major competitive golfing course in the Nigerian golf circuit, having taken off from a very humble beginning.

“Beyond that is the fact that the very best of the best in the country now come to play in this wonderful, historic and well maintained golf course.

“Indeed the creme de la creme of the society is now seeing TYB as the club to be, which accounts for the very high number of newly inducted members which we are seeing today,” he said.

Maj. Gen. Godwin Umelo (rtd), a vetran of the club, while briefing the newly inducted members on the core values of the club, charged them to be good ambassadors of the club, adding that TYB was a home for all, irrespective of one’s status.

“Here in TYB, we are very friendly and sociable people and relate with everyone equally and respectfully.

“That is why in TYB, we try to encourage members not to discriminate. Even though I am also a member of IBB International Golf and Country Club, I prefer to play my golf here in TYB.

“When people ask me why I prefer TYB, I tell them that anywhere there is a status symbol, I don’t go there.

“I am who I am today by the grace of God. So, I don’t play golf to show off,” he said.

Mr. Ali Peters, the vice captain of the club, revealed that new inductees were selected and confirmed as members of the club amongst so many others after going through a painstaking interview process.

Peters congratulated the newly inducted members for being amongst the lucky few who were successful and urged them to be upright and be guided by the values and rules of the club at all times.

Barr. Evelyn Mutba-Dimka, one of the inductees, expressed joy at being one of the lucky few to have scaled through the screening process, adding that she was looking forward to becoming a professional player.

NAN also reports that highlights of the event were the inductee oath taking which was administered by the club’s lawyer, presentation of induction packages, the meet and greet session, cocktail and club house tour, as well as a putting competition coordinated by the Resident Pro.

There was also presentation of end of the year packages to no fewer than 200 caddies and staff of the club, which was an annual ritual to show appreciation to the caddies for their dedication and hardwork at the club throughout the year.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
