Yinka Akosile, Ondo Councillors’ Forum Chair Warns on Hurdles against Ondo Local Government Polls

Chairman of Ondo State Councillors’ Forum, Mr. Yinka Akosile, on Thursday warned politicians jostling for various local council offices to stay away from the

proposed April, 2016 local government elections in the state.

Honourable Yinka Akosile said that politicians presently struggling to participate in the elections should be aware that the forum which ran to the courts for protection when Governor Mimiko, with a stroke of impunity dissolved the councils seven years ago, said the matter and their prayers still pends before the supreme court.

Akosile said that the apex court would hold another hearing on the matter on April 4, 2016 and that politicians campaigning for elective positions in the grassroot poll scheduled by Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC, would be acting subjudiced.

Mr. Akosile who appeared on a current affairs programme hosted by an opposition local radio station in the state, ADABA, disclosed that prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had made futile attempts to appeal to Governor Mimiko over various emoluments and financial entitlements owed members of the forum, but the governor often committed to vague promises that were only kept in their breaches.

He also said that he had been a close associate of the governor since 1991, but that he had been frustrated with Mimiko’s latest attitude of non-cooperation. Akosile repeatedly accused his co-panelists from the All Progressives Congress (APC) of trying to stir trouble in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that he would never cross carpet from PDP as he said he and others were foundation members of the party in 1998.

Pleading with all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, he said the leaders of the party must proceed with caution so that the party would not suffer an implosion that is similar to its national crisis. He told his APC co-panelists that their party too was in no way better than the PDP
