CEPASD Trains 1000 Students on Gender Based Violence and SRHR in Secondary Schools in FCT

The Center for Peace Advocacy and Sustainable has trained and empowered over 1000 students in AMAC, Bwari and Kuje through it STEAM Educational Based Learning approach on Gender Based Violence and SRHR as part of CEPASD project activities on Promoting Gender Equality and Women Empowerment: An Approach to End SGV supported by Government of Ireland through the Embassy of Ireland Nigeria 

The Executive Director CEPASD, Mr. Augustine Igweshi stated that the aim of the training is to empower students with the knowledge about Gender Based Violence and SRHR to advocate against SGBV and promote SRHR in their schools and communities.  

The training and empowerment was carried out at Government Girls Science Secondary School Kuje, Government Science Technical College Bwari and Government Science Secondary School Maitama. 

The principals of the three schools were very delighted to have received CEPASD in their schools for the training of the students on Gender Based Violence and SRHR

The facilitators emphasised on the needs for continuous training for students to enable them understand issues that affect and how they will contribute to address them.

CEPASD used STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Educational Learning Approach to train and educate the students on the issues of SGBV including prevention and response

Also, CEPASD distributed Sanitary Pads to over 600 female students of the three schools as part of the sexual and reproductive health and rights while over 300 male students gained knowledge on SGBV and how it will become advocates.

Additionally, the Mr. Augustine Igweshi encouraged the students to become advocate and Ant-SGBV Ambassadors to report cases of SGBV in their schools and communities.

The Head of Gender Unit, FCTA Department of Science, Technology and Innovation appreciated CEPASD for choosing the schools and Government of Ireland for their support.
