A Residents of Dutse Makaranta New Site in Abuja have called for urgent intervention by authorities following allegations of repeated physical abuse against a 13-year-old girl identified as Precious.
Community members claim the teenager has endured prolonged maltreatment at the hands of her guardian, prompting growing concern among residents and child rights advocates in the area.
According to accounts from residents, the latest incident occurred on Wednesday when the girl was allegedly subjected to severe flogging over accusations that she stole ₦400. Witnesses further alleged that despite sustaining visible injuries, she was made to carry out domestic chores, including fetching water.
Residents also claimed that after returning from a police station, the guardian allegedly confined the teenager in a bathroom overnight.
Several members of the community described the incident as part of a pattern of abuse rather than an isolated occurrence. Neighbours alleged that the teenager has been repeatedly beaten and subjected to harsh treatment over an extended period.
Some residents said they are prepared to provide testimony to authorities regarding the alleged abuse if an investigation is launched.
The allegations have sparked widespread concern within the community, with residents calling on law enforcement agencies, child protection authorities and relevant government institutions to intervene immediately to ensure the child’s safety and wellbeing.
Community leaders and concerned citizens have also urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the claims and, where necessary, hold those responsible accountable in accordance with the law.
The incident reportedly occurred around the Dutse Alhaji area of the Federal Capital Territory, where residents say there is growing anxiety over the welfare of the teenager.
As of press time, there was no official statement from the police or child welfare authorities regarding the allegations. Efforts to independently verify the claims and obtain a response from the accused guardian were not immediately successful.
The case has generated renewed calls for stronger protection of vulnerable children and increased vigilance against child abuse across communities in the country.
