Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala 2027: Akwara Joins Reps Race, Urges INEC to Protect People’s Mandate

By Bukola Ojo

In what political analysts have described as a strategic and ideologically significant entry into the 2027 electoral equation, Barrister Patrice Akwara has officially picked the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) nomination and expression of interest forms to contest for the Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, Imo State.

The accomplished legal practitioner, agribusiness entrepreneur, and grassroots political figure made the declaration while addressing journalists shortly after securing the party nomination forms, where he unveiled a robust reformist agenda anchored on democratic accountability, economic revitalization, constitutional governance, and people-oriented representation.

Delivering a sharply articulated critique of Nigeria’s prevailing political architecture, Barrister Akwara maintained that the nation has arrived at a defining constitutional and socio-political moment requiring competent, visionary, and institutionally grounded leadership capable of restoring public confidence in governance.According to him, years of ineffective political stewardship, policy inconsistency, and weak institutional accountability have contributed to the nation’s economic stagnation and democratic distrust.

“The current crop of leadership in Nigeria is overdue for replacement,” Akwara declared. “They have dragged the country into political relegation, much like a football coach whose tactical philosophy no longer delivers results. What Nigerians deserve is transformational leadership driven by competence, constitutional responsibility, productive governance, and sincere commitment to national development.

”Barrister Akwara, who is the Principal Partner of Patrice Akwara & Co. Legal Practitioners and Managing Director of Shamrock Green Fields & Spring Limited, described his aspiration as a strategic movement aimed at deepening democratic representation, stimulating grassroots economic productivity, and advancing participatory governance within the constituency.

Positioning himself as a candidate with a multidimensional governance perspective, the aspirant emphasized that his background in law, agriculture, and enterprise management uniquely equips him with the institutional insight and economic understanding necessary for effective legislative engagement.“I come with long-standing legal experience and practical economic exposure,” he stated.

“Beyond legal advocacy, I am actively engaged in agriculture and production. My objective is to create sustainable economic advantage for my people through enterprise development, investment-driven initiatives, and policies that encourage productivity and self-reliance.”In a further demonstration of his grassroots political philosophy, Barrister Akwara highlighted his role as the traditional Prime Minister of his autonomous community, noting that the position has strengthened his understanding of community-based leadership, conflict resolution, and inclusive governance.“As the traditional Prime Minister of my autonomous community, I understand the realities confronting the grassroots,” he noted.

“Leadership must remain accessible, accountable, and development-focused. Governance should inspire trust, inclusion, and measurable impact in the lives of the people.”The NDC House of Representatives hopeful also delivered a strong institutional charge to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging the electoral umpire to uphold electoral credibility and protect the constitutional sanctity of the ballot ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He warned that any attempt to compromise the democratic process would undermine public trust and weaken Nigeria’s constitutional democracy.“As we approach 2027, INEC must rise above every form of compromise and guarantee that the voices and votes of Nigerians genuinely count,” he asserted.

“Democracy can only flourish where electoral integrity is protected and the people’s mandate is respected without manipulation or institutional interference.”Political stakeholders within Aboh Mbaise and Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency have continued to describe Barrister Akwara’s emergence as a significant political development capable of reshaping representation within the constituency, citing his legal pedigree, economic orientation, intellectual depth, and grassroots appeal as qualities aligned with the reform-driven philosophy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
