The Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN) has commended President Bola Tinubu, for initiating the move to establish three new specialised police formations for marine, solid minerals and forest security. The South Africa Government, has commended the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the provisional measures and sanctions ordered against Israel. The federal government says it plans to design indigenous solutions to implement the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA). Vincent Olatunji, the national commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during an interview with journalists on the forthcoming 2024 Data Privacy Week. Data Privacy Day is celebrated globally on January 28 but commemorated in Nigeria from January 28 to February 4 to mark the establishment anniversary of NDPC, which came into being on January 4, 2022. Nigeria currently needs more than 500,000 data protection officers, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) says. Vincent Olatunji, the NDPC’s national commissioner, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja on Monday. The police command in Edo said it had arrested no fewer than 18 suspects in the last month for various criminal activities. The state’s commissioner of police, Funsho Adegboye, stated this while addressing journalists on the arrest in Benin on Monday. Three men on Monday appeared in the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly cutting off some flesh from a human corpse buried in their area. The defendants include a tailor, Tunde Adelakun, 32, and Oluwasegun Akinlolu, 23, both of Omi-Adio and a herbalist, Saheed Oloyede, 54, resident of Bakatari along the Ibadan/Abeokuta expressway. The police charged the trio with two counts of conspiracy and causing indignity to the corpse. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. The magistrate, M. M. Olagbenro, granted the defendants N200,000 bail each with one surety. Ms Olagbenro adjourned the matter until February 29 for a hearing. President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr Bayero Farah as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, Zaria, for a second term of four years. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that the military is working with other security agencies and stakeholders to go after kidnap syndicates operating in the territory.
