Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has approved that August 20 of every year as Isese Day in the state. To this end, the governor has declared Monday, August 21, 2023 as the maiden public holiday to commemorate the day. This is contained in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo. According to the circular, the governor urged traditional worshippers in the state to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity and stability of the state in particular and the country in general. The approval indicates the governor’s commitment to inclusivity and respect for all religious practices in the state.

Titus Okunrounmu, a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) director, has advised President Bola Tinubu’s government to reduce the cost of governance to stem the country’s debt profile. Mr Okunrounmu, who gave the advice Thursday in an interview in Ota, Ogun, described the list of ministerial portfolios on Wednesday as over-bloated for a country with a huge debt profile. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, says the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory can produce up to two million pairs of uniform materials annually for members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies in Nigeria. On Wednesday, Mr Musa disclosed this during a maiden visit to DICON ordnance factories and facilities at its Headquarters in Kaduna. The factory is a public-private partnership between DICON and Sur Corporate Wears Nigeria Ltd. Mr Musa said the factory is scheduled to be inaugurated in December. The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale has said that his principal has promised there will be no further increase in the petrol pump price. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) FCT command says it intercepted about 3,091.032kg of suspected illicit drugs with a monetary value of over N56.9 million from January to date. Kabir Tsakuwa, NDLEA’s FCT commandant, disclosed this in an interview on Wednesday in Abuja. Mr Tsakuwa said the drugs seized included suspected cannabis sativa, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, tramadol, Rohypnol, diazepam, ecstasy, and megadon. He also stated that 343 drug suspects were arrested within the period, adding that they comprised 328 males and 15 females. Mr Tsakuwa also mentioned that the NDLEA prosecuted 188 drug offenders, with 126 convicted. The illegal possession of firearms charge that was filed against suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, at the Federal High Court in Lagos has been withdrawn by the Federal Government. Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a special military task force maintaining peace in Plateau and parts of Bauchi and Kaduna States, have killed two suspected armed robbers in Amere-Ududu, Tudun Wada community in Southern Kaduna.
