The Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, has directed the Department of Environmental Health to immediately commence the evacuation of illegal refuse dumpsites across Kuje and its surrounding communities as part of efforts to improve environmental sanitation and public health.
Hon. Shekwolo issued the directive during an inspection tour of several illegal waste disposal sites within the Area Council, where he expressed concern over the growing menace of indiscriminate waste dumping.
The Chairman described the illegal dumpsites as serious environmental hazards that pose significant health risks to residents and undermine the aesthetic appeal of the Council area.
He reiterated the commitment of his administration to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more organized environment for the people of Kuje.

“We will do everything within our powers to ensure that refuse collection in Kuje is properly structured and managed in a manner that facilitates efficient evacuation and disposal.
We shall also collaborate closely with the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to achieve sustainable environmental sanitation across the Area Council,” he said.
According to him, environmental cleanliness remains a critical component of sustainable development, public health protection, and economic growth.
“A healthy environment is a productive environment. We cannot continue on this trajectory of indiscriminate waste disposal.
Our administration is determined to restore cleanliness, environmental sanity, and public confidence in the sanitation system across Kuje,” the Chairman added.

Hon. Shekwolo also appealed to residents, business owners, market operators, and community leaders to support the Council’s sanitation drive by adopting proper waste disposal practices and reporting environmental violations to relevant authorities.
He noted that environmental sustainability is a collective responsibility and called for greater public cooperation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The Chairman further warned that the Council would not hesitate to enforce environmental regulations against individuals or organizations found engaging in illegal waste disposal activities.
Meanwhile, the Department of Environmental Health has already commenced the evacuation of identified illegal dumpsites, with officials expressing optimism that the exercise will significantly improve sanitation standards across the Area Council.
The Kuje Area Council remains committed to promoting environmental sustainability, enhancing public health, and improving the overall quality of life of residents through effective sanitation and waste management initiatives.
