Ogun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Adjourns Sitting Till Sept. 4

The Ogun governorship election petition tribunal, on Wednesday, in Abeokuta, adjourned its sitting till Sept. 4 for the adoption of final written addresses. The Justice Hamidu Kunaza-led panel adjourned proceedings after all parties closed their cases in the petition filed by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ladi Adebutu. Mr Adebutu had dragged Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured re-election, before the three-man tribunal. He has alleged that Mr Abiodun did not win the majority of votes cast during the March 18 governorship election. Abia: Police Arrest Suspected Child Trafficker

The police command has announced the arrest of a suspected child trafficker, Obinna Ibe, for kidnapping three young girls and moving them to Ghana. The news of the arrest was contained in a statement signed by police spokeswoman Maureen Chinaka. The suspect, arrested on March 8 by Isuochi Divisional Police Headquarters, is an indigene of Achara Isuochi in Umunneochi LGA. The Nigerian Air Force says the air component of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) destroyed boats laden with stolen crude oil as part of efforts to thwart oil theft in the Niger Delta region. NAF spokesman Edward Gabkwet disclosed this in a statement on Monday. He said the air component had on Saturday bombarded three boats carrying stolen crude oil at about four nautical miles southeast of Bille, a riverine area located west of Bonny Island and south of Port Harcourt, in Rivers. The Department of State Services (DSS) has said it is not illegally detaining suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
