The State Security Service says its operatives, soldiers, and police launched raids on Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist hideouts in Kaduna and Kano. The secret police revealed that the terror groups are establishing “active cells” in the states. Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for SSS, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja. He said the raids of the hideouts in the two states were simultaneously carried out in the early hours of Monday. According to him, during the raid in Kaduna, the terrorists deployed improvised explosive devices (IEDs) against SSS operatives. Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration spent N43.8 billion of the N89.1 billion generated in the first quarter of 2023. The figure was revealed in the Kaduna first quarter budget performance report. The office of the account general produced the report with the support of the Planning and Budget Commission on Tuesday. It showed that the N89.1 billion generated and the N43.8 billion expended represented 23.7 per cent and 11.7 per cent of the N376.5 billion total budget for the year. The report further showed that the state received N41.1 billion as recurrent revenue during the year’s first quarter, representing 22.4 per cent of the N183.4 billion budgeted revenue. A 70-year-old man, Abdullahi Haruna,  on Tuesday appeared before an Upper Area Court, Gwagwalada, Abuja, for allegedly giving false information to the police. Haruna, who lives at Rugan Fulani Piri Village, Kwali, Abuja, is also  charged with criminal trespass and inciting public disturbance. The prosecutor, Mr Dabo Yakubu, told the court that the defendant conspired with others at large to trespass into a farmland belonging to one Mr Emmanuel Madaki. Dabo that the defendant tried to lay claims to the farmland before the police, but investigations showed it was not his. The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), on Tuesday, inaugurated N2.1 billion intervention projects at the Federal College of Education, Technical, Bichi in Kano State. The death toll in the armed clashes between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has climbed to 822, the Sudanese Doctors Union said Tuesday. “The number of civilian deaths since the beginning of the clashes has climbed to 822 with 3,215 injuries,” the nongovernmental organisation said in a statement. The casualty statistics covered the national capital Khartoum, the capital of North Kordofan State El-Obeid and the capital of West Darfur State Geneina, the union noted. Eyewitnesses said direct clashes broke out on Tuesday between units of the Sudanese Army and RSF fighters in Jabra area in the south of Khartoum, and the areas of Arkaweet, Al-Mamoura and El-Jeraif in the east of the capital. The Federal Government on Tuesday in Abuja, inaugurated the Revised National Agricultural Seed Policy 2022, towards ensuring food security in Nigeria. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has inaugurated a Fire Service Training Academy on Tuesday in Abuja. The minister described the customized training academy as one of the best in Africa and first in Nigeria, designed to meet specific training needs of firefighters in the country. Interior minister Rauf Aregbesola says inmates awaiting trial have constituted a huge nuisance to the effective management and operations of prisons and are a security risk. Mr Aregbesola said this while speaking at a two-day high-level conference on decongestion and corrections management on Thursday in Abuja.
