Interior minister Rauf Aregbesola says inmates awaiting trial have constituted a huge nuisance to the effective management and operations of prisons and are a security risk. Mr Aregbesola said this while speaking at a two-day high-level conference on decongestion and corrections management on Thursday in Abuja. The interior minister admitted that the awaiting trial inmates had also become a serious security threat in the country. According to him, they instigate riots and disrupt the peace of the prison. The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing in the suit filed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, until September 14. Last November, the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court adjourned indefinitely the suit filed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime against the IPOB leader. Justice Binta Nyako, in a short ruling, adjourned the matter sine die (indefinitely) to await the decision of the Supreme Court. Omar Touray, president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, said only six of the 15 member states had the ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card (ENBIC). The commission’s president named the member states as Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Ghana, Benin, The Gambia, and Sierra Leone. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it arrested a suspected internet fraudster, Precious Ojo, aka ‘Obago’, in Oghara, Delta. EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren confirmed this in a statement on Thursday. According to the statement, Ojo, 26, was arrested following a petition received from a United States of America citizen on his fraudulent activities. ”The petitioner had alleged that the suspect impersonated one Raymond Bush, who works in the US Treasury, to defraud her of $268,000. The supreme court has affirmed the election of Ademola Adeleke as the governor of Osun state. Delivering judgment on Tuesday, a five-member panel of the apex court held that the court of appeal correctly reinstated Adeleke as governor. In March, the court of appeal sitting in Abuja reinstated Adeleke as the governor of Osun state. A three-member panel of justices of the court of appeal held that the election tribunal erred when it ruled that the 1st and 2nd respondents (Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress) proved their allegation of over-voting.
