The Arewa Community in Southern Nigeria has faulted the call for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by President Muhammadu Buhari. Musa Saidu, the Arewa leader, stated this in a statement on Tuesday. Traders at the Akere Spare Parts Market, located in the Ajeromi Ifelodun area of Lagos, who woke up to a devastating sight as the market was engulfed in flames have called for a proper investigation into the incident. The traders who made the call in an interview with newsmen, suspect foul play, suggesting that politically sponsored thugs may be responsible for the incident while calling for proper investigation. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has asked a federal high court in Abuja to dismiss a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against President-elect Bola Tinubu. The PDP and Dino Melaye, a chieftain of the party, had filed an order of mandamus to compel the NDLEA to arrest and prosecute Tinubu over an alleged forfeiture of funds relating to narcotics trafficking in the US. In a preliminary objection filed on Wednesday, Joseph Sunday, director of prosecution of the NDLEA, said the application by the PDP and Melaye is “incompetent” and that the court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain it. The federal government has announced Monday, May 1, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Workers Day celebration. Interior minister Rauf Aregbesola announced this in a statement on Friday. Aregbesola noted that the holiday is in recognition of workers’ efforts in nation building. “There is dignity in labour, we have to have dedication and commitment to the work we do because it is vital to nation-building,” said the minister.
