Northerners Slam Ohanaeze, Condemn Call For IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

The Arewa Community in Southern Nigeria has faulted the call for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by President Muhammadu Buhari. Musa Saidu, the Arewa leader, stated this in a statement on Tuesday. President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, had on Sunday urged mR Buhari to release mR Kanu before the end of his tenure. NDLEA Urges Court To Dismiss PDP’s Suit, Says Tinubu Was Never Prosecuted In US

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has asked a federal high court in Abuja to dismiss a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against President-elect Bola Tinubu. The PDP and Dino Melaye, a chieftain of the party, had filed an order of mandamus to compel the NDLEA to arrest and prosecute Tinubu over an alleged forfeiture of funds relating to narcotics trafficking in the US. In a preliminary objection filed on Wednesday, Joseph Sunday, director of prosecution of the NDLEA, said the application by the PDP and Melaye is “incompetent” and that the court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain it. The National Economic Council (NEC), presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, has agreed that the removal of petrol subsidy should be suspended temporarily. NEC, however, said all of the preparatory works should continue in consultation with the states and other key stakeholders, including representatives of the incoming administration. The resolution comes just two months to the scheduled time for the removal of the costly petrol subsidy – also called under-recovery.
