PCC plays key role in addressing HND, BSc discrepancies in the civil service – CCommission

The Public Complaints Commission (PCC) had said that the commission plays a critical role in addressing complaints from members of the public against discrimination in the placement of HND and BSc holders in the civil service.

The commission made this known during a stakeholders workshop, organised in Abuja, to help enlighten the public on its progress in addressing complaints of the discrimination.

While speaking on the dichotomy, the organisation said it has led to the discrimination against HND holders in the civil service, resulting in limited career advancement opportunities and reduced salary scale.

According to the agency, disparities has been a contentious issue in Nigeria for several years, which needs urgent intervention by the major stakeholders in the country.

However, the commission noted some critical stakeholders responsible in addressing the discrepancies included; Ministry of Education, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), National Universities Commission (NUC), Civil Service Commission and Professional Bodies.

“The issue of HND/BSc dichotomy has led to discrimination against HND holders in the civil service, resulting in limited career advancement opportunities and reduced salary scale.

“It examines the stakeholders in governance and institutional reform to eliminate disparities in the placement of HND and BSc holders in the civil service and the role of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) in addressing complaints from members of the public against discrimination.

“The Federal Ministry of Education is responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies that guide education in Nigeria. The ministry plays a crucial role in ensuring that the educational system promotes equal opportunities and eliminates discrimination in employment opportunities.

“National Board for Technical Education (NBTE): The NBTE is responsible for the development and regulation of technical and vocational education in Nigeria. The board plays a critical role in ensuring that the education system provides HND holders with equal employment opportunities.

“National Universities Commission (NUC): The NUC is responsible for the accreditation and regulation of universities in Nigeria. The commission plays a crucial role in ensuring that universities provide BSc holders with the necessary skills and competencies for employment in the civil service.

“Civil Service Commission: The Civil Service Commission is responsible for the recruitment, promotion, and discipline of civil servants in Nigeria. The commission plays a critical role in ensuring that the civil service provides equal employment opportunities to HND and BSc holders.

“Professional Bodies: Professional bodies, such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), play a crucial role in ensuring that HND holders acquire the necessary professional certifications to enhance their employability. (NAN)
