Boko Haram killed 20 Christians in Mubi, Adamawa State -AP

By NJADVARA MUSA and JON GAMBRELL Associated Press MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) -- Suspected gunmen from a radical Muslim sect attacked a town hall Friday in rural northeast Nigeria, killing at least 20 people who had gathered for a meeting of a Christian ethnic group, police said. The attack at noon targeted a town hall where Christian Igbo people were holding a meeting, with gunmen chanting "God is great" as they fired Kalashnikov rifles. (more…)

‘Government Must End Subsidizing with Borrowed Money’ – President Jonathan

No meaningful infrastructural development is possible in an environment where government depends on borrowed money to fund capital budget and subsidies.   Nigerian President Goodluck E. Jonathan made the declaration earlier on Friday during a meeting at the State House, Abuja, with a Special Adviser to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, Prof. Jeffrey Sachs.   Mr. Jonathan said that the deregulation of the petroleum sector is a necessary change Nigeria must make if government will have a significant impact in the lives of citizens.   According to president, the country’s 2010 capital budget was funded with borrowed money, the equivalent of which was used to fund the subsidy last year, adding that “no meaningful infrastructural development is possible in such an environment”.   P...
