FIWON urges govt to subsidise health insurance for informal workers

By Joan Nwagwu The Federation of Informal Workers Organisations of Nigeria (FIWON) has urged the Federal Government to provide matching pension contributions and subsidised health insurance for informal workers. The FIWON General Secretary, Mr Gbenga Komolafe, made the call during a rally in Abuja on Wednesday while addressing newsmen on the plight of informal workers. They were arrested in Mallam Jakwa Town, Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State, following actionable intelligence on their illegal activities.Operatives of the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate carried out the arrest. The suspects are: Umar Muhammad, Modu Bamai Umar and Sani Samaila. Their suspected illegal mining activities are worsening insecurity and environmental degradation in the state.
