Danbatta To Get NPON Award For Contributions To Telecoms Industry

The Nigerian Communications Commission’s executive vice chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta, will receive the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) award.

The honour, which recognises exceptional leadership, innovation and dedication in recipients’ respective fields, highlight Danbatta’s contributions to developing the country’s telecommunications industry.

The NPOM Award is a prestigious recognition that celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to productivity, innovation, and national development.

Danbatta’s well-deserved recognition further solidifies his reputation as a transformative leader and industry trailblazer.

Under his guidance, the NCC has implemented initiatives that have transformed the sector and achieved noteworthy milestones.

Under Danbatta’s leadership, the telecommunications sector has experienced significant investments and healthy competition, contributing to sustainable industry growth and positive impacts on Nigeria’s economy.

He has prioritized consumer interests and rights, implementing policies and initiatives that are consumer-centric, such as the NCC’s toll-free line for consumer complaints that helps address consumer grievances and ensures their protection.

Danbatta’s relentless efforts to enhance broadband penetration across Nigeria has improved internet access and affordability, bridging the digital divide and promoting economic growth, while his commitment to digital inclusion and innovation is evident in the NCC’s Digital Nigeria Centre (DNC) programme, which enhances emergency response capabilities and access to digital resources nationwide.

The commission’s head of public affairs, Reuben Mouka while congratulating Danbatta , stated that the entire telecommunications industry and the nation at large celebrate Danbatta’s achievements and extend their heartfelt congratulations on the conferment of the 2023 NPOM Award.
