Devastating storm threatens education of 800 children ahead of WEAC examination

No fewer than 800 students, including those planning for the 2026 WAEC examination, of CNECOF International College Putoki, Balanga LGA of Gombe State, are facing the risk of continuing their education following a devastating heavy windstorm which destroyed a substantial part of the school.Centre for Nutrition and Education of Children Foundation (CNECOF) is therefore seeking urgent intervention to salvage the impending danger the students of the institution are facing, according the Proprietor of the college Mr. Polycarp Yusuf.Severely damaged during the storm that occurred on Sunday the 3rd of May, 2026, were the school’s examination hall that was given adequate facelift in preparation of the forth coming West African Examination Council (WAEC).Other facilities at the College completely destroyed were, all the classroom blocks of the secondary school section and the School’s Chapel that serves as a centre of spiritual and moral development.Polycarp informed our Correspondent that, “On May 3, 2026, a heavy storm struck Degri Ward in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State, causing extensive destruction to CNECOF International College Putoki, a school operating under the CNECOF Orphanage Home. The tragic incident has severely impacted this key educational institution that serves the community and beyond.“We are therefore informing and soliciting help from the general public, government authorities, development partners, NGO’s, faith-based organizations, corporate organizations, philanthropists, international community and well-meaning individuals to help us with immediate support.“This disaster comes at a critical time students are just one week away from sitting for the West African Senior School Council (WAEC) examination, placing their academic future at serious risk.“For over eight years, CNECOF International College Putoki has served as a beacon of hope, providing quality education to over 800 children, including orphans and vulnerable children”, Mr. Polycarp stated.End.
