Female Circumcision: Family Declared Wanted for Non-Compliance

The Idowu Royal Family in llaro, Ogun State, has declared wanted, one ofthe princes, Oluwaseun Idowu, and other members of his family for failing to submit to the household’s directive that all female children in the family should be circumcised.

The family’s head, Chief Lateef Balogun Idowu , in a chat with sharpedgenews.com lamented that what Oluwaseun and his household did was abominable. “In fact, it is not just all the daughters but particularly the first daughter must be circumcised at the age of eight.

“Besides, we must perform certain rituals at the family shrine and failing to comply with this will attract life-threatening sanctions,” he said, amid sobs.

However, community sources disclosed tosharpedgenews.com that a similar circumcision and ritual rite was conducted on a daughter of his uncle in August 2017. that led to her death. that female daughters should undergo circumcision.

In a press statement by its national coordinator, Comrade Akinwale Oyenusi, the group described the act of female circumcision as not only barbaric but out of tune with modern reality.

In the statement Obtained bysharpedgenews.com, the group averred, “We are appalled, to say the least, about this barbaric and inhuman attitude of circumcising female children, especially the first one, in this community.

“We make bold to Say that this act cannot stand anywhere in the world. We feel that it should stop and that is exactly what we are impressing on all communities that embrace the practice.

In the statement, the group particularly expressed worry about the plightof Oluwaseun , who had been directed by his royal family to submit his female daughter for circumcision or face dire consequences.

Again, we take exception to this, and call on people of conscience to wade in. According to the group, Oluwaseun and his family members had fled their honw. for fear of being used for native cult ritual, for failing to comply with the daughter-circumcision directive.
