The management of Isese Light Kiddies Nursery and Primary School has announced the expansion of Ibadan’s premier Isese educational citadel with a brand-new branch.
The announcement was made today, July 29, 2026, during the school’s second anniversary celebrations.
While addressing parents, teachers, and guests at the occasion, the Araba of Ibadanland, Araba Ifalere Odegbemi Odegbola II, stated that his desire to continually support and promote educational development in Oyo State prompted him to launch the construction of the new branch at Odegbola Junction, Omi Adio, Ibadan.
He emphasised the profound importance of merging Western education with indigenous cultural values.
“The establishment of the first Isese school in Ibadan is undoubtedly a significant milestone in cultural revival. We aim to contribute to the educational development of the state while promoting Yoruba traditional beliefs, which have faced external challenges over time,” he said.
Araba, who also holds the title of Olu-Isese of Ibadanland, stressed the need for children to reconnect with their indigenous roots.
He explained that education in traditional religion is vital for preserving cultural identity while assuring the public that the school will respect all religious faiths equally.
“Like any standard school, we will provide a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum for our pupils. Those from Isese backgrounds will specifically learn Yoruba mythology and ethical teachings to prepare them to become better leaders,” he added.
The event, which was held on the new school premises in Omi-Adio, Ido Local Government Area, featured the presentation of a certificate to the school’s very first graduate, Ibrahim Akeju, who is transitioning into Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS 1).
Oluwo Awosanmi Abe, the chairman of the occasion, commended Araba Odegbola for his visionary leadership and profound generosity toward educational and cultural development.
He also spoke on the transformative power of education, noting that it opens new doors of opportunity for every individual.
The Chairman of the school’s governing board, Chief Awoniyi Oyekunle, also called on the government and well-meaning individuals to support the Araba of Ibadanland’s initiative to establish the first Isese school in Ibadan.
The anniversary event served as a fundraising support for the ongoing construction of the new branch, which is expected to be officially commissioned in September 2026.
The celebration concluded with a rich display of Yoruba cultural activities, including traditional drumming, dance performances, poetry recitals, storytelling, and a colourful fashion parade showcasing traditional attire.
