In line with its commitment to improving environmental sanitation and public health, the Kuje Area Council has commenced the evacuation of a major refuse heap and the clearing of blocked drainage channels around the Kuje Township Stadium and its surrounding areas.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, the Director of Environmental Health, Sanitarian Gloria Apugo, said the exercise is in fulfilment of the Chairman’s directive to eliminate illegal refuse dumpsites and promote a cleaner, healthier environment across the Area Council.
She disclosed that the Environmental Sanitation Committee was immediately mobilised to the site, deploying trucks and a wheel loader to ensure the swift evacuation of the accumulated waste.
According to Apugo, the Council is also putting measures in place to sustain the exercise by deploying sanitary guards and vigilantes to the area to prevent indiscriminate dumping of refuse and ensure compliance with environmental sanitation regulations.
She noted that the prompt commencement of the exercise reflects the Executive Chairman’s unwavering commitment to delivering on his campaign promises and improving environmental sanitation throughout the Area Council.
“Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo remains resolute in his determination to rid Kuje of indiscriminate refuse dumps and create a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for all residents. This administration is committed to providing practical and sustainable solutions to environmental challenges across the Council,” she said.
The Chairman of the Environmental Sanitation Committee, Mr. Habakkuk John, stated that the exercise would significantly improve public health by providing residents with a cleaner and healthier environment.
He explained that the complete evacuation of the refuse is expected to take about three days, while the clearing of the blocked drainage channels is projected to be completed within one week.
Also speaking, a resident of the area, Barrister Raji, commended the Kuje Area Council for the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial to the community. He urged the Council to sustain the exercise to ensure lasting environmental cleanliness and improved public health.
