The Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, on Tuesday formally received and honoured Kuje’s celebrated para powerlifting champion and 2026 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Mr. Rilwan Idris Sabo, at the Council Secretariat in Kuje, in recognition of his outstanding achievement on the international stage.
The reception was organised to celebrate Mr. Sabo’s remarkable feat of winning the gold medal in para powerlifting at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, a historic accomplishment that has brought immense pride and honour to Kuje Area Council, the Federal Capital Territory, and Nigeria at large.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Shekwolo described the athlete’s victory as a testament to resilience, discipline, determination, and excellence. He noted that Mr. Sabo’s success has once again demonstrated that Kuje is home to exceptionally talented individuals capable of competing and excelling on the global stage.
The Chairman commended the gold medallist for his unwavering commitment, perseverance, and dedication, describing him as a worthy ambassador of Kuje and an inspiration to young people across the Area Council and beyond.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to youth development and sports advancement, stressing that exceptional individuals who distinguish themselves in their respective fields deserve recognition, encouragement, and institutional support.
“Our administration remains committed to creating opportunities for young people to discover and maximise their potential. We will continue to celebrate excellence and support initiatives that promote sports development, youth empowerment, and community growth,” the Chairman stated.
Responding, Mr. Rilwan Idris Sabo expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Chairman, the leadership of Kuje Area Council, and the entire people of Kuje for the warm reception and unwavering support throughout his sporting journey.
He dedicated his gold medal to God, his family, coaches, supporters, and the good people of Kuje, while encouraging young Nigerians to remain focused, disciplined, and determined in pursuing their dreams despite challenges.
Mr. Sabo emphasized that hard work, resilience, and self-belief remain the foundation for achieving greatness, urging young athletes never to give up on their aspirations.
The colourful reception attracted members of the Council’s Executive and Legislative Arms, management staff, traditional rulers, youth leaders, sports enthusiasts, community stakeholders, and other well-wishers, who gathered to celebrate the historic achievement of Kuje’s distinguished son.
The event underscored the Kuje Area Council’s unwavering commitment to promoting sporting excellence, recognising outstanding achievements, and empowering young people to attain greater heights in all spheres of endeavour.
