The Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the deplorable condition of some Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the Area Council, describing the situation as unacceptable and inconsistent with his administration’s commitment to delivering accessible, efficient, and quality healthcare services to residents.
The Chairman made the remarks on Monday, July 20, 2026, during an inspection tour of selected Primary Healthcare Centres and ongoing drainage evacuation projects along major road corridors within Kuje.
Speaking during the tour, Hon. Shekwolo emphasized that Primary Healthcare Centres constitute the first point of contact for many residents seeking medical attention and, as such, must operate in a clean, functional, and conducive environment capable of providing quality healthcare services.
He lamented that the poor state of some of the facilities does not reflect the standard of healthcare his administration envisions for the people of Kuje, stressing that residents deserve healthcare facilities that are safe, adequately maintained, and capable of meeting their basic medical needs.
The Chairman immediately directed the appropriate departments to commence the rehabilitation, renovation, and maintenance of the affected healthcare facilities to improve service delivery and restore public confidence in the primary healthcare system.
While reaffirming his administration’s commitment to upgrading healthcare infrastructure, Hon. Shekwolo stressed that improved facilities alone would not guarantee quality healthcare unless matched with professionalism, dedication, discipline, and compassion on the part of healthcare personnel.
He warned that his administration would no longer tolerate negligence, absenteeism, indiscipline, lateness, or poor work ethics among staff, adding that every healthcare worker must demonstrate a high sense of responsibility and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
“Government will continue to provide the necessary support and infrastructure, but every member of staff must also play their part by ensuring that our health facilities remain functional, clean, and responsive to the healthcare needs of our people,” the Chairman stated.
During the inspection, Hon. Shekwolo also assessed the ongoing drainage evacuation exercise along major roads within Kuje. He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, noting that the exercise forms part of proactive measures to improve environmental sanitation, ensure the free flow of stormwater, prevent flooding, and safeguard public infrastructure during the rainy season.
He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to sustain environmental sanitation initiatives aimed at creating a cleaner, healthier, safer, and more aesthetically appealing Kuje for residents and visitors alike.
In a related development, the Executive Chairman directed security agencies to immediately intensify operations against criminal elements, particularly miscreants and touts, popularly known as scavengers, operating within the Kuje Main Market and other public spaces across the Area Council.
He noted that the activities of these individuals have become a growing source of concern for traders, business owners, and residents due to reports of harassment, theft, and other acts capable of undermining public peace and commercial activities.
Hon. Shekwolo assured residents that his administration would continue to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that Kuje remains safe for businesses to thrive and for citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear.
The Executive Chairman reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to providing quality healthcare, improving public infrastructure, strengthening security, promoting environmental sustainability, and implementing people-oriented programmes that will enhance the overall welfare and quality of life of the people of Kuje Area Council.
