The Ladies’ Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has sought medical support from the National Hospital Abuja for the All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) 2026.
Lami Ahmed, LGAN President and Chairperson, AACT 2026 Local Organising Committee, made the request during a courtesy visit to the hospital on Monday.
Ahmed said Nigeria would host the AACT from Nov. 2 to Nov. 7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
She said about 30 African countries were expected to participate, with elite female golfers, officials, supporters, and international guests attending the championship.
According to her, the Nigeria Ladies Open Championship will immediately follow the AACT, running from Nov. 7 to Nov. 10.
She said the back-to-back events required comprehensive medical preparedness to ensure the safety and well-being of players, officials, guests, and spectators.
“We are requesting the National Hospital Abuja to serve as a principal medical partner for both championships,” Ahmed said.
She requested a fully equipped ambulance, qualified medical personnel, emergency supplies, and established evacuation and referral arrangements throughout the events.
The LGAN president also requested prompt reception and treatment of anyone requiring further medical attention, as well as support for the medical and safety committee.
Ahmed said the partnership would demonstrate Nigeria’s preparedness to safely host international sporting events and promote women’s sports development.
She said LGAN would recognise the hospital’s contribution through official communications, event publications, and appropriate championship ceremonies.
Ahmed also invited the hospital’s management to the championship’s opening ceremony scheduled for Nov. 3 at 3:30 p.m. at the IBB International Golf and Country Club.
She appreciated Dr. Jaff Momoh, chairman of the AACT Medical Sub-Committee and immediate past Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital Abuja.
Ahmed said LGAN valued Momoh’s contribution to the championship’s medical planning and appreciated his support for the committee’s activities.
Prof. Mahmud Raji, Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital Abuja, who was represented by Dr. Surajudeen Bello, the Deputy CMAC, received the LGAN delegation and commended the association for prioritising medical preparedness.
Raji said the hospital recognised the importance of adequate emergency arrangements during major sporting events involving international participants.
He said the hospital would review LGAN’s request and work with the relevant organisers on appropriate medical and emergency-response arrangements.
Raji further acknowledged the importance of collaboration between healthcare institutions and sports organisers in ensuring prompt response to emergencies.
The AACT Nigeria 2026 is expected to bring together female amateur golfers from across Africa for competition in Abuja.
The event is also expected to provide an opportunity to promote women’s participation in sports and showcase Nigeria as a destination for sports and tourism.(NAN) www.nannews.ng
