The Olugbesan family of Oke-Agbeni, in the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, has officially announced the removal of Hazeem Gbolarunmi as Mogaji following a vote of no confidence.
In a resolution dated 13 May and addressed to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja (Arusa I), the family said Gbolarunmi “is not a legitimate member of the Olugbesan family” and that he was imposed as Mogaji in 2008 by the late political figure Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu.
The family announced Alhaji Jubril Olumide Labisi Olugbesan as the new Mogaji of the family.
The family accused Gbolarunmi of misconduct, including converting family properties for personal use, sowing division among members and secretly selling ancestral land in Ido Local Government Area.
The family also accused Gbolarunmi of receiving several millions of naira from Mich Royal Company Nigeria Limited into his personal account after misrepresenting facts about the company.
“Any person or entity transacting business with him regarding the said land does so at their own peril and risk,” the document said.
The resolution also directs Gbolarunmi to hand over family documents, properties, regalia, staff of office and other symbols of authority on or before 1st of June 2026.
“Alhaji Jubril Olumide Labisi is a retired director of audit with the Lagos State Office of Internal Audit and a member of the Olugbesan family. We have appointed him to assume the role of Mogaji and to take custody of family items and properties immediately.”
The family said the action reflects its collective will and invokes customary rights under Yoruba chieftaincy practices.
The resolution urged family members, stakeholders and authorities to uphold the decision to restore “peace and unity.”
