One man’s exit can’t sink us—-C’River PDP shrugs off chairman’s resignation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River says it remains intact, strong and focused despite the resignation of its State Chairman, Venatius Ikem Esq.

Ikem had, in a letter dated October 16, 2026, resigned his position, citing lack of direction in the party.

But in a swift reaction, the party, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Prince Mike Ojisi, today, told members to remain calm, insisting there is no cause for alarm.

“The PDP in Cross River State remains intact, strong, united and focused. Our party structure from the Ward to the State level is fully intact,” the statement read.

The party said the resignation of one man, however highly placed, cannot collapse a party as big as the PDP, stressing that the party is built around the people and ideology, not an individual.

“The claim that the party lacks direction is his personal opinion. The truth is that PDP has never been more focused and more determined than it is today,” Ojisi said.

According to the statement, under the guidance of its leaders, elders, stakeholders and its Governorship Candidate, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, the party has a clear direction to win in 2027 and “rescue Cross River from the failed APC government.”

The PDP called on members across the 18 local government areas and 196 Wards to remain loyal and disregard attempts by the opposition to create panic.

On succession, the party said its constitution is clear, adding that the State Working Committee (SWC) will meet to announce an Acting Chairman to pilot affairs pending substantive appointment.

“All party activities continue as scheduled. Our winning structure is intact and getting stronger,” the statement added.

It thanked Ikem for his services and wished him well.
