
Abuja came aliv on Wednesday as the outgoing President of the Rotary Club of Abuja-Aso Golf , Rtn. Lizzy Ulunma Asomugha, marked the successful conclusion of her tenure with a grand event tagged “Night of Peace,” in collaboration with CAPIPIN.
The colourful ceremony attracted distinguished personalities from across the globe who gathered to celebrate President Asomugha’s leadership and contributions to Rotary International and the promotion of peace.
The event was chaired by Sir Mike Okiro, former Inspector General of Police. Delivering the keynote address, Ambassador Joe Keshi, former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke on the theme of leadership in times of peace. He emphasized that many nations have achieved remarkable transformation during peaceful periods through visionary leadership that prioritizes human capital development, strategic planning, and meritocracy.
Among the notable dignitaries in attendance were Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation; Ambassador Philip Ochena, Uganda’s Ambassador to Nigeria; Ambassador MD Yamah the former Nigerian Ambassador to Mozambique; AIG Ifeanyi Uche, PhD, Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Training, who served as the Guest of Honour; members of the prestigious IBB Golf Club; Rotarians from across the country; and several other distinguished guests.

Speakers at the event paid glowing tributes to President Lizzy Asomugha, commending her exemplary leadership, integrity, and commitment to service throughout her tenure.
One of the highlights of the evening was the tribute by members of the Rotary Club Abuja of Aso Golf, who celebrated their outgoing president fondly referred to as the “Star Girl”—for her inclusive leadership style, unwavering integrity, and dedication to recognizing and celebrating the contributions of others. They presented a certificate of achievement to President Lizzy.
The ceremony also featured the induction of new Rotary members by District Governor Dame Joy Okoro, accompanied by the District Executive Secretary. The District Governor commended the outgoing President for her selfless service to her club, to the District and Rotary International.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inducted members, Mr. Chibuike Akujobi, National Director of CAPIPIN and a JCI Senator, expressed gratitude to Rotary International for the opportunity to be inducted. He pledged to strengthen collaboration between CAPIPIN and Rotary in advancing humanitarian and community development initiatives.
The event was professionally anchored by Rtn. Joel Haruna, PhD whose engaging presentation added elegance to the occasion.
As the evening drew to a close, guests unanimously extolled the virtues of President Lizzy Asomugha, describing her as an outstanding leader whose tenure was marked by integrity, selfless service, and a lasting commitment to peace and community development.
Rtn. Lizzy been appointed as an Assistant Governor with effect from 1st July 2026.
