The District Governor of Rotary International District 9127, Dame Joy Nky Okoro, in partnership with The Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Club of Abuja Guzape, the Rotary Club of Abuja Asokoro Diamond, and the Rotary Club of Abuja-Aso Golf, has donated medical equipment to Bethralpha Medical Centre in Wuye, Abuja.

The donation included 20 hospital crank beds, two incubators, and two phototherapy lights. The equipment is intended to strengthen maternal and neonatal healthcare services, particularly the treatment and survival of newborns requiring specialised medical attention.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Dame Joy Nky Okoro described the project as a demonstration of Rotary’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and saving lives.

She emphasised that investments in maternal and child health help reduce mortality rates and provide long-term benefits for families and communities.

“Today’s commissioning is not merely about donating equipment; it is about restoring hope, preserving lives, and supporting healthcare professionals with the tools they need to serve humanity better.

“Rotary exists to create lasting change, and this project exemplifies our mission of Service Above Self,” she said.

The district governor noted that access to quality healthcare remained a fundamental requirement for community development and urged corporate organisations, philanthropists, and development partners to complement government efforts in strengthening healthcare infrastructure.

According to her, investments in maternal and child health will continue to yield long-term benefits for families and society at large.

The presidents of the three Rotary clubs highlighted the importance of collaboration and community-focused service in addressing healthcare challenges and improving access to quality healthcare.

President Lizzy Asomugha of the Rotary Club of Abuja-Aso Golf thanked the District Governor for supporting the initiative and announced that her club plans to undertake one final project before the end of her tenure.

She said the project, focused on environmental sustainability, will involve tree planting and the donation of waste bins to a school.

The Presidents of the Rotary Club of Abuja Guzape and the Rotary Club of Abuja Asokoro Diamond noted that the project is expected to enhance healthcare outcomes for mothers and newborns in Abuja, reaffirming Rotary’s commitment to humanitarian service and community development.

President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Asokoro Diamond, Rt. (Rev.) Hansel Ugo Chigborogu, said the project emerged from an assessment of pressing healthcare needs within the community and the determination of Rotarians to make a meaningful difference.

He explained that the clubs deliberately focused on maternal and neonatal healthcare because of its critical role in reducing mortality rates and improving the quality of life for families.

Chigborogu said, “The donation of these 20 crank beds, incubators, and phototherapy lights is our contribution toward ensuring that healthcare providers have the capacity to deliver timely and quality medical care.

“We are proud to collaborate with our sister clubs and The Rotary Foundation in executing a project that will benefit countless patients for many years to come.”

He added that Rotary members remained committed to identifying areas of need and implementing impactful projects in line with the organisation’s humanitarian objectives.

He expressed optimism that the intervention would enhance patient care and provide a more conducive environment for treatment and recovery.

President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Guzape, Rt. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Omeri, described the project as a testament to the power of partnership and collective action.

He noted that the successful execution of the intervention underscored Rotary’s belief that sustainable community development is best achieved through collaboration among stakeholders committed to positive change.

“As Rotarians, we are inspired by opportunities to serve humanity. We recognise the challenges faced by many healthcare institutions, and we believe that every investment made toward improving healthcare services contributes directly to saving lives and building stronger communities.

“This project represents our shared commitment to making a lasting impact,” he said.

Omeri urged community leaders and development partners to continue supporting initiatives that promote healthcare accessibility, particularly for women and children who often bear the greatest burden of inadequate medical facilities and equipment.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of Bethralpha Medical Centre, Rev. George Agu, Head of Administration, expressed gratitude to the donors and said the equipment would significantly improve the hospital’s capacity to provide quality maternal and neonatal healthcare.

“We are deeply grateful to Rotary International District 9127, The Rotary Foundation, and the three clubs for this generous donation.

“This equipment will strengthen our service delivery and enhance our ability to provide quality care to patients.

“More importantly, it will contribute to saving lives and improving healthcare outcomes for mothers and newborns,” Agu said.

He assured the Rotary clubs that the equipment would be properly maintained and utilised for its intended purpose.

NAN reports that the event attracted Rotarians, healthcare professionals, community leaders, and other guests, who commended the clubs for their commitment to humanitarian service and community development.

Participants described the project as a model of effective partnership capable of delivering tangible benefits to society while advancing Rotary’s global vision of creating hope and improving lives through service. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
