Time Ticks for Nigeria in Case Against Sunday Igboho as Court in Republic of Benin Awaits Evidence of Crime

Authorities of the investigative court in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, expect officials of the Nigerian government seeking the extradition of prominent Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, to present evidences of criminal breeches within the next one week.

Investigative judges in Republic of Benin, have ordered Chief Adeyemo to be kept in protective custody pending consideration of the merits of request by Nigerian officials to seek his return to Nigeria.

Sources in Republic of Benin, explained to Sharpedgenews.com that Sunday Igboho may have become the lightening rod Nigeria’s neighbor needs to retaliate two years of economic hostility premised on border closure by General Muhammadu Buhari(Rtd), the elected president.

Beninois President, Mr. Patrice Talon reportedly regards Sunday Igboho, as a political activist. But, Talon maintains dignified aloofness from the court trials of the activist.

Many influential traditional rulers in the 11.5million French speaking country also seem to be interested in monitoring the trial of Sunday Igboho whose troubles started by leading resistance to the bloody rampage of Fulani rampage and invasion of farmlands and rural communities in Yorubaland South-West Nigeria.

The violence and trespasses of Fulanis were often unchecked by the Nigerian government.

A long time appointee of Buhari, the envoy to Republic of Benin, Lt.-General Tukur Buratai, hurriedly resumed work in Cotonou few days ago, after presenting his letter of credence to the country’s President. Whether he would be lending a hand in the case against Igboho is not clear.

However, sources in Republic of Benin told Sharpedgenews.com that the best that could come from the case involving the activist would be for him to be granted political asylum.

Mr. Igboho is being represented by attorneys. Two of the five lawyers are human rights experts sponsored by a network of global rights watch.

Sunday Igboho remains in protective custody.
