The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON)has reiterated its commitment towards ensuring standardised products for the safety of lives and properties of Nigerians.The SON Director-General, Mallam Farouk Salim said this while briefing newsmen after destroying some substandard tyres in Abuja.Salim, represented by the Director, North-Central Region of SON, Sale Babaji, said the essence of destroying the tyres was to deter importers of substandard products into the country.According to him, the organisation had tried to fine importers of substandard products but the measure did not work, that is why it resorted to destroying the tyres.We are here to destroy substandard tyres that we have detained from the importers worth millions of naira. Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC national chairman has set up a nine-man committee to intervene in the impeachment crisis rocking the Ondo government. An Ondo state mother of three, Mrs Tayelolu Solomon, has reportedly killed her 65-year-old husband, Felix Solomon, with a pestle in Ondo State. According to the state-owned newspaper, the incident occurred at GRA in Ondo town at the weekend. It was gathered that the couple had been having a lingering crisis and the woman had threatened to kill him. The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has warned indigenous and expatriate contractors constructing road projects across the country against substandard works. The minister warned in Abuja at a meeting with contractors handling federal roads, saying sub-standard work was no longer acceptable. Mr Umahi said most of the roads currently being constructed in the country could not last seven years after construction. The Ondo State House of Assembly has served Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, a letter of allegation signaling his impeachment process. Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, while briefing journalists on Monday in Akure, said Mr Aiyedatiwa was served today through a substituted service. The house, on Wednesday, during a plenary session, directed the clerk to write the deputy governor on alleged gross misconduct. The African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) have called on African countries to strengthen systems that would improve access to sanitation services for the people sustainably. AMCOW’s executive secretary, Rashid Mbaziira, made the call in an interview with journalists in Abuja. He said the council would continue to promote implementing and utilising the African Sanitation Policy Guidelines (ASPG) in member countries.
