Determined to leverage the welfare of the elderly, Wife of the Cross River governor, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, has offered sponsorship through the enrollment of 500 senior citizens aged 70 and above, into the State Health Insurance Scheme (CRSHIS), covering their premiums for the next two years. The intervention, which targets vulnerable elders across the 18 local government areas of the state, was confirmed by the Director General of Cross River Health Insurance Agency, Chief Godwin Iyala, during a telephone interview. Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA has assured of a coordinated action plan to mitigate the effects of flood disaster on the victims while declaring that 8 local governments consisting of 90 communities are clarified under high risk between April to June this year in Niger state. In view of its potential health risks, Cross River House of Assembly has proposed a ban on the use of Styrofoam and foil paper for packaging food in the state. The Lawmakers who expressed concerns over the potential health risks associated with using foil materials especially when exposed to high temperatures, called on the state government to mandate the Environmental Task Force Agency to enforce the ban.
