SENATOR DANDUTSE DELIVERS LANDMARK VICTORY AS SENATE ADVANCES FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES FUNTUA AND CRITICAL TERTIARY EDUCATION BILLS

In a defining moment for Nigeria tertiary education landscape, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, most distinguished Senator Muntari Muhammad Dandutse, the Senator representing Katsina South Funtua Zone, has steered a major legislative breakthrough on the floor of the National Assembly.

On today Order Paper under consideration of reports, the Senate received and considered the reports of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund presented by Senator Muhammad Dandutse Muntari (Katsina South).

The reports covered two pivotal pieces of legislation: the Federal University of Health Sciences, Funtua, Katsina State (Establishment) Bill, 2026 (SB.690) and the Federal Universities of Technology Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (SBs. 395 & 635).

These reports form part of a broader package of education-focused bills that also includes the Agricultural Research Council Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the Federal Universities of Agriculture (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

The passage of the bills followed the thorough consideration and adoption of the reports of the various relevant committees that scrutinised the respective bills.

Senator Dandutse leadership of the committee has been widely regarded as a standout achievement of the 10th Senate.

The successful presentation and consideration of these reports underscore his commitment to expanding access to specialised higher education, particularly the establishment of a Federal University of Health Sciences in Funtua, a development of immense significance to Katsina State and the northern region.

In the same plenary, five additional bills scaled the introductory or first reading stage and will now proceed through the full legislative process toward eventual passage into law or otherwise. The Senate thereafter adjourned plenary till Tuesday, 20th October, 2026.

The day proceedings mark a clear and tangible win for the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, reinforcing his role as a key driver of progressive tertiary education reforms in the 10th Senate.

This is good news to good people of Katsina South and the entire Katsina State.
Commendable.
