NLC Protest:Conduct your Protects in. A Peaceful Manner – IG of Police

The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has expressed deep concern over the nationwide protests announced by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on August 2. The police boss urged the trade unions to conduct the planned demonstrations in a peaceful manner to prevent being hijacked by miscreants. Woman docked for allegedly assaulting man in police station

A 50-year-old woman, Patience Bello, was docked in an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja for allegedly assaulting a man in a police station. The Prosecution Counsel, SP Babajide Olanipekun told the court that the defendant poured a liquid substance on one Mr Johnson Oluwore while in Kubwa Police Station on July 17. Olanipekun added that the defendant’s act put Oluwore in a state of fear of death or bodily injury. The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of section 265 and 398 of the Penal Code. The presidential election petition court has reserved judgment in the petition filed by Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Atiku is challenging the outcome of the February 25 election and praying the court to nullify President Bola Tinubu’s victory. Among several issues raised in the joint petition, Atiku and the PDP are alleging that Tinubu was not qualified to contest the poll. They claim that the president was indicted for drug trafficking in the United States, that his academic certificates submitted to INEC were forged, and that Tinubu is a citizen of Guinea.
